Author Tom Shapcott, now a professor of University of Adelaide, was former Chair of the Australian Book Council. At this year's Country Writers' Festival held in Shepparton, Jan Chandler asked him for his views on the state of the publishing industry, and the future of writing as a profession in the final years of the second millennium.
