the Spiels Anthology - australian literature alive(?)

[interview, Joe Hilderbrand - 4 minutes 22 seconds]

The Spiels Anthology Cultural critic and author of the recently published "Gangland", Mark Davis, says that anyone who thinks Australian literature is dead - or just dead boring - should take a look at "The Spiels Anthology". Published by Melbourne University Union, "Spiels" is a collection of writings drawn from popular public reading, a bit like the legendary Balmain Prose and Poetry readings of the 1970s.

Fiona Parker tracked down Joe Hilderbrand - 1997 editor of Melbourne University student newspaper "Farrago", and a contributor to "The Spiels Anthology" - to ask if he thought Australian writing was dead boring, how the anthology came to be, and his opinions about whether the Australian youth is given a voice. Joe also read one of his contribution in "The Spiels Anthology", "Awkward". (Note: weblinks updated)
