Outback Art Prize
[interview, Sara Schmidt - 5 minutes 47 seconds]In Broken Hill, better known as a mining town far west New South Wales, an annual award is gives out to the best work on paper that depicts the Australian outback. This year's Outback Art Prize, a $5000 acquisitive prize , was announced at a ceremony on November 2 at the Broken Hill City Art Gallery.
Nicole Foote spoke to Sara Schmidt, the public programmes officer of the Broken Hill City Art Gallery, to find out more about the history of the gallery, the source of funding of the prize, the intentions the prize serves for, who this year's prize winners are, and the reasons why paper is chosen for the medium for the prize.
