[story - 5 minutes 45 seconds]The Walkely Awards honour excellence in radio, television, print and other media. This year new categories and judging procedures were added to the awards.
This year's awards were launched with a seminar entitled 'racism, ratings and the media'. Among the speakers were Mary Delahunty, from ABC television and Peter Hartcher - both former Gold Walkely Award winners, and Victoria's last commissioner for Equal Opportunity Moira Rainer. The speakers were critical of prejudices common in Australian journalism and media.
