Melbourne's 'coffee house theatre' is housed in what was once an underwear factory in Carlton. La Mama for the most part survives without funding, yet produces around 45 plays a year, and remains a useful intimate place for film and television making.

Guest Betty Burstall, founder and manager for the first ten years of La Mama, a small theatre venue in Faraday Street, Carlton, Melbourne spoke to Vincent O'Donnell.
