new service online for local shows on stage

[interview, David Spicer - 5 minutes 56 seconds]

In the 1990s with the excessiveness of entertainment of various kinds in Australia, amateur theatre receives an extraordinary popularity in the community, providing opportunities for people to see show never seen in their habiting regions, as well as training opportunities for emerging talents into the professional fields.

The quality, production scale, and acceptance of non-professional amateur theatre, or community theatre, is expanding today; with 2-4 million audiences nationwide each year whilst most of the production is keeping their ticket price under $20.

Aiming to promote good-valued community theatre production on a national basis, Showline is established by the Association of Community Theatre to provide an telephone information service keeping you in touch with the latest local community theatre activities, including a category of 100 local community musicals and plays under $20, information about the Association and other production group, audition information, and more. Now on line in NSW, Victoria and WA, Showline is hoping to expand to other states and territories.

Fiona Parker talked to David Spicer, communication officer of the Association of Community Theatre about the group and its new online service. They also discussed on the growing hunger within the community for amateur theatre, and the balance community theatre struggles to maintain between bigger production and low-priced admission.

You will find Showline at telephone number 1902 260 527. (Note: weblinks updated)
