Yates' life between her theatre and his paperback[interview, Denise Yates - 14 minutes 40 seconds]Denise Yates has a long and varied career in theatre, but very little of it on stage. Beginning her theatrical works since moving back to Australia from New York in early 1960s, Denise founded one of the earliest Australian suburban theatres with some generous financial supports of the government. She was also married to the late Alan Yates, the author of more than 300 Carter Brown crime novels, and more than 30 other titles written under other names (even Denise's!) published overseas Whilst Alan is honoured this year with Ned Kelly Award for lifetime achievement in crime fiction writing. Denise is hoping for reprints of Carter Brown for a whole new generation. In this interview, Denise told Vincent O'Donnell about her profession of managing theatre and her opinions on the importance of government funding to the survival of theatre. She also revealed the story behind her husband Alan from a film technician to become probably one of the most proliferate Australian writer generating so many ideas, as well as talking about the Yates' "production line" of writing. artsalive | current | a week ago | two weeks | three weeks | email
