Arts Info: information access on line(s)

[story, interview - 7 minutes 38 seconds]

In mid-August, the Department of Communications and the Arts launched the one stop shop for information on the arts in Australia. Retitled "Arts Info", it is the first of the coalition's headline promises to be fulfilled.

With a database and a search engine as well as an interface for telephone service, Arts Info cooperates with all major arts ministries, 780 local government authorities and about 500 community arts and heritage organisations in all states and territories to provide information access services both on the Internet and on telephone.

Vincent O'Donnell talked to Jennifer Levy, director of the cultural industry development section in the Department of Communications and the Arts to find out how "Arts Info" works, what kind of information the site provides, and what sort of procedures it takes to prevent abuses of the network.

Arts Info is currently online at and on telephone on 1800 241 247.
