WHAT IS A WEBRING?

A Webring is a totally free service, providing the Internet community with a different way to organise itself on the World Wide Web. It is a way of grouping together Websites (or even individual pages) of similar themes or topics by linking them together in a "Webring" around Cyberspace.

WHO CAN JOIN THE JEWISH RING?

To qualify to join the Jewish Ring, your Web site or page MUST be well managed AND, at least in part, have some Jewish content. It can relate to anything Jewish - cultural, social, religious, educational, humour - it doesn't matter as long as it's Jewish! Remember, it is NOT whether the owner of the Web site or page is Jewish - membership of the Jewish Ring relates to the Jewish CONTENT of your site or page.

Please note that Web sites containing anti-semitic, anti-Israel, Jews for Jesus, messianic, missionary, Holocaust-denial or historical revisionist themes or ideas are specifically BANNED from joining the Jewish Ring.

Also, no "Trophy Hunters" will be admitted. These are people who have turned their Web pages into collections of Webring logos. Please do not apply for membership of the Jewish Ring if you all want to do is to add another Webring to your collection.

JOINING THE JEWISH RING

If your Web site or page qualifies for the Jewish ring, joining is a simple 4 step process:

  • Fill out the form below, add yourself to the Queue and receive your Site ID via email.
  • Insert into your page the appropriate links, code fragment and graphics. You'll find them below on this page.
  • Once you've completed steps 1 and 2, email me telling me that you've done so.
  • I'll check out your Web page. If all looks OK, I'll then add you into the Ring and email you!
  • STEP 1 - FILL OUT THIS FORM

In order to be added to the "Queue" and be given a Site ID #, you must fill out this form and submit it.

    Your Site URL:
    Your Site Title:
    Your E-mail Address:
    Pick a Password:

Step 2 - ADD THE CODE AND GRAPHICS

Once you receive your Site ID #, you need to add the necessary code to your Web Site Home Page. Remember, when you put this code into your page, you need to check it VERY carefully, add your Site ID# and your email address where required, or it won't work properly.

Don't worry if all this looks a bit confusing. Just take it step by step and slowly. If you still need help with the code, email me and I'll try to help you out.

    Code Fragment:

    <!-- BEGIN THE JEWISH RING FRAGMENT --> <center> <table border=5 cellspacing=0> <tr> <td align=middle> <a href="http://www.vicnet.net.au/~aragorn/jew-ring.htm" TARGET="_top"> <img src="jewringn.gif" ALT="Jewish Ring" BORDER=0></A> </td> <td align=middle> <center><br><h5> <font size=2 face="arial"> This <a href="http://www.vicnet.net.au/~aragorn/jew-ring.htm" TARGET="_top">Jewish Ring</a> site<br>is owned by <a href="mailto:______@_____">YOUR_NAME</a>. <br>Click here for<br> [ <a href="http://www.webring.org/cgi-bin/webring?ring=jewish&id=___&prev" TARGET="_top">Prev</a> | <a href="http://www.webring.org/cgi-bin/webring?ring=jewish&id=___&skip" TARGET="_top">Skip It</a> | <a href="http://www.webring.org/cgi-bin/webring?ring=jewish&id=___&next5" TARGET="_top">Next 5</a> | <a href="http://www.webring.org/cgi-bin/webring?ring=jewish&id=___&random" TARGET="_top">Random</a> | <a href="http://www.webring.org/cgi-bin/webring?ring=jewish&id=___&next" TARGET="_top">Next</a> ] <br> Want to join the Jewish Ring?<br> Click here for the <a href="http://www.vicnet.net.au/~aragorn/jew-ring.htm" TARGET="_top">info</a>. </font> </h5></center> </td> <td align=middle> <a href="http://www.webring.org/cgi-bin/webring?ring=jewish&id=___&next" TARGET="_top"> <img src="jewnextn.gif" ALT="Next Jewish Ring Site" BORDER=0></A> </td></tr> </table> </center> <!-- END JEWISH RING FRAGMENT -->

    MAKE SURE THAT...

  • where it says .../cgi-bin/webring?ring=jewish&id=____ <-----Add your Site ID # (SIX different places!!)
  • where it says a href="mailto:____@_____" <--------Add your e-mail address (ONE place)
  • where it says YOUR_NAME<-------Replace that with your name (ONE place)
  • you COPY THE GRAPHICS TO YOUR SERVER. The Jewish Ring Graphics are not called up from this server.
You therefore need to copy BOTH of them onto your own server.

This is how the code will look on your page
This is only an example so the links are dead.

If you have a colored background on your page, or a background
graphic, you may prefer to use the transparent graphics.
In the HTML code fragment, just change the names
    "jewringn.gif" to "jewringt.gif" and "jewnextn.gif" to "jewnextt.gif",
and this is how your new code will look -

To obtain the necessary graphics, simply copy them from the examples above.
Using Netscape, just right-click over the top of each image, and save them.
Do NOT change the names of these graphics when saving them!

    Step 3 - EMAIL ME!

Okay - so far so good. You've added yourself to the Jewish Web Ring queue. You've added the HTML code fragment to your Web page (having included your NAME, EMAIL address and SITE ID# where needed in that fragment) and you've also copied the TWO Jewish Ring graphics - and it all looks great! NOW is the time to email me telling me just that!

Use this form to let me know that you are ready to be added.

    Your E-mail Address:
    Your Site URL:

When I get your email, I'll visit your Web site or page and if everything checks out,
I'll email you within a couple of days confirming your Membership of the Jewish Ring. That's it!!

    MAINTAINING YOUR MEMBERSHIP DETAILS

From time to time you may need to edit your membership information. That's why you chose a password when you added yourself to the queue. Enter your information on the form below and submit it. You will then be taken to a form at "Webring Headquarters" which will permit you to make the changes to your site information.
