The Author: Neil Smith
Neil Smith was raised and educated in Perth, Western Australia. He s pent twenty four years in the Australian Regular Army including a tour of duty in South Vietnam with the 8th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment.
After several years as an ammunitions and explosives specialist, Neil was made a Member of the Order of Australia for outstanding service in the field of Explosive Ordnance Disposal in the Solomon Islands. Other military assignments have taken Lieutenant Colonel Smith throughout Australia and overseas.
While stationed in the United Kingdom, Neil's appetite for military history was whet. On return to Australia he became a keen member of the Military Historical Society of Australia. Since then he has published a number of works on Australian military history covering areas such as the Korean War and the Malayan Emergency.
Neil resigned from the Army in late 1991. He is now pursuing his interest in Australian military history and associated research.
