The youth group is co-ordinated by young people, for young people - in association with Animal Liberation Victoria.
The Animal Liberation Youth Group for Secondary School Students, has grown into an innovative and active team of young people including well over 100 members. As well as holding regular planning and ‘report-back’ meetings, we have undertaken several events including an information table in the Bourke Street mall on the opening weekend of duck season where many signatures were collected and have since been forwarded to the Minister for Conservation. Apart from this, two very active members were interviewed on ABC TV’s youth issues and music show ‘Recovery’ (10/5/97). An excellent effort, already generating a huge response from kids all over Australia who want to get involved. Grrrr! was also involved in ‘Cyptonite’ - an all-ages show in Morwell featuring Magic Dirt, Ricaine and Bittersweet among others in late May '97.
Currently the focus of GRRR! is increasing awareness of vegetarianism. We have just compiled a fanzine which has a vegetarian focus and includes informative articles and reviews, as well as interviews with the veggie members of bands such as Silverchair, Frenzal Rhomb, The Mavis's, Moler, Bittersweet, Violtine, Jebediah and Sandpit. The fanzine was released in June '98.
