Family Files Project
In co-operation with our parent Historical Society our group has started a new project to consolidate and make more accessible our information on early Anglesea and district families. There are two components: a new A3 filing cabinet organised alphabetically by family name, and a new family history database where for all the early local families we can consolidate most of our existing historical information such as their genealogical information, family links, the events in their lives, photographs, documents, and so on. If you would like to help us entering this information from our existing publications and records, please contact us at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our new Research Centre in Torquay
In co-operation with the Torquay Historical Society our family history group has set up a branch Research Centre based at their Torquay premises. This will particularly help with their research on early Torquay families.
Pioneering families in the Surf Coast Shire
The Surf Coast Shire would like information on the pioneering families in the shire to be easier to find. Our Group is co-ordinating the effort by the various historical groups in the shire to help make this possible.
Welcome to the Surf Coast Family History Group web pages. Whether you are a member of long standing, a new member, or someone who is just browsing, we hope that you will find these web pages useful. [ What's New ]
Our aim is to help our members research their family history. We are a non-profit organisation formed in 1999, staffed by volunteers, are an auspiced sub-group of the Anglesea and District Historical Society Inc, and a member society of the Genealogical Society of Victoria Inc. We also operate a Broadband for Seniors service sponsored by the Australian Government (open during research hours). New members are very welcome, so if you would like to join our friendly group, please print out the Membership Form and post it to our Treasurer (see our address below), or just call in to one of our friendly monthly meetings.
We meet on the second Thursday of every month except January at 10:00 am at Anglesea's History House (location below), with speakers on a variety of topics to suit the family historian. Please refer to our Meetings Programme. We'd be very interested to hear your story too, or your experiences with recording family history. Presentations or suggestions for presentations are very welcome: please contact our Programme Organiser, Jan Morris (below).
We publish a quarterly journal, the Inverlochy Log, with articles related to local family history. All its issues can be searched and accessed on line. Perhaps you'd like to add your own family history to it - new contributions are very welcome: please contact our Editor, Jan Morris (below).
Our library and research centre for members' use contains an extensive range of books, CD-ROMs, microfiche, and magazines, as well as Internet access. Experienced members are available on Library Days to help beginners. Visitors are very welcome.
