A New Worship Centre for Hoddle Street

late_afternoon_view5.jpg (5K)Our new church was completed in late May and dedicated on June 19th, 2005. This series of pages are now a retrospective of the project as it unfolded.

First Days of the Project
The Final Service
The Final Service in the old buildings at St Philip's was held on August 15th, 2004. A small selection of photos appear here.

The Final Working Bee
The Final Working Bee was held the day before, the coldest August day for forty years. This series of photos shows the church being made ready for the final service, and the hall and other buildings being prepared for moving.

The Final Moving Day
The Final Moving Day was August 16th, still quite cold and wet. This series of photos shows the church fittings being packed away, the removal itself, and the church completely bare of fittings.

The Works Begin
The building work began almost immediately, and this is a record of these first days of earthworks.

Progress Reports
This series of photos records the progress of the building.

The Stained Glass Windows
This links to a series of pages outlining details of the stained glass windows at St Philip's Collingwood, especially the suite of twelve box windows for which we are seeking sponsorship. These pages show colour images of these windows, details of what they depict and how to sponsor them if you wish. In due course a page depicting an image of the Trinity Window will be available as well

Puzzle Pages
Visit our puzzle pages where you can try building St Philip's yourself with our fun jigsaws! Build the steel yourself,“look through the arched window”, put together a children's talk, see the old vicarage from an unusual angle, relive the heat of the summer at the archaeological dig. There is a lovely winter scene of the Collingwood Town Hall through the trees, a nineteenth century bottle found underneath the vicarage, and a special puzzle for those who love trucks! The jigsaw pictures will be updated occasionally, and suggestions for photos to use on these pages are welcome.

The St. Philip’s worship centre is the first new church building to be constructed on Hoddle Street in decades. It is an exciting opportunity. We want our new worship centre to be a place of Christian witness, compassion and outreach and to be a hub of community life in our area of Collingwood.
