Some of my photos taken at the Royal Children's Hospital Hugh Williamson Gait Analysis Laboratory - 8th April 2002

Me being measured on the physio table by Ms Roslyn Boyd. Roslyn  has at least 5 years of expertise in the assessment of CP children having received BOTOX.

"Walking in the RCH Gait Lab for the video camera. " The gait analysis laboratory itself is simply a room large  for you to walk up and down in easily. It also needs to be big enough to contain the television cameras which are used to make measurements. It is therefore about 12 metres long and 10 metres wide.

More measurements. Note the faces on my knees. These faces help give some perspective to the video footage.

I called them Mr Happy & Mr Sad.

More measurements
and still more.
The following is a direct extract from the Royal Children's Hospital (Melbourne)  Gait Lab web site.

The Hugh Williamson Gait Analysis Laboratory is a world leader in the analysis of walking disorders in children. Using state of the art equipment our highly specialist staff are able to determine why children walk the way they do. Knowing this it is then possible to plan treatment individually for each child.

"Gait Analysis  gives  information about exactly how people walk. If people have difficulty walking, then this information can be used to plan various types of treatment aimed at improving their walking ability. If this is achieved then other abilities, such as standing or running, may also be improved. A gait analysis, is  therefore only useful if it helps in planning treatment for the patient."

Further information on the RCH Gait Lab can be found  on their web site
