About the Antique
Motorcycle Club of Australia
The Antique Motorcycle Club of
Australia was formed about 20 years ago because it was felt that there
was a real need to encourage older (particularly Veteran) motorcycles back out
onto the roads. We organise our runs and rallies to cater for the older
machines, in an attempt to see these great machines back on the roads with no
pressure on them to perform.
- We believe that early
motorcycles (the earlier the better) still have a place on the road on
suitable runs. We actively encourage members to bring their earlier and more
primitive motorcycles on rallies.
- We rigidly adhere to our Club
requirement to ride only Club eligible motorcycles on club runs ie. a
motorcycle made before the 31st December 1930. We believe that this rigid
adherence to a fixed cut off date is one of the strengths of the Club, and
the main reason that we have grown to our current size of about 150 members.
- We believe that all members
should be active, so there is a membership requirement to own a motorcycle
which is not only Club eligible but which is preferably virtually
"ready to ride". If in the future you cease to own a Club eligible
bike you automatically cease to be a member of the Club.
- If you don't have a Club
eligible motorcycle that is nearly ready to ride, then you probably don't
need this club. Having said that, if you are actively restoring an eligible
motorcycle with the intent of having it on the road shortly, you should join
the Club and gain some benefit from the knowledge of existing members.
- There will never be pressure
to keep up with the fast bikes on rallies. If your bike is a poor performer
(because of its inherent design, not poor condition) we will encourage you
to get away a bit earlier or we will wait at frequent stops until you catch
up.
- We do not have restoration
awards. If you are fortunate enough to have an original motorcycle we
encourage you to ride it as long as it is safe and in good mechanical order.
- We encourage authenticity and
originality.
- We encourage all members to
contribute to the club newsletter (four issues per year) with rally and
restoration reports, technical articles etc. We encourage members to supply
copies of original spare parts manuals, brochures, etc to members (subject
to copyright laws).
- We are a non-profit club,
fully incorporated with red plate authority under the Victorian act.
Membership fees are kept as low as possible, with a basic aim of covering
the cost of Newsletter production and Public Liability insurance.
- We actively encourage
participation of a member's spouse and family, no extra fee is charged.
- The main base of the Club is
in Victoria, but we encourage the participation of members who live
interstate. We run a number of two-day rallies each year well outside
Melbourne so that interstate members can attend Club runs. We encourage
groups of interstate members to organise runs in their own areas under the
Club umbrella.
To become a member you will need
to be proposed and seconded by existing members before being passed for
acceptance at a Committee meeting. You will need to list at least one Club
eligible motorcycle for your membership application to be considered. The Club
recognises there is a need for security of information and keeps any knowledge
of members motorcycles strictly confidential.
If you have any specific
questions about the Club or wish to become a member, then please Email or write
to the Secretary or a Committee member (see the "Contacts" page on
this Web site). Please enclose a stamped self-addressed envelope if you are
writing.
