Preserving the Memory

A continuing education initiative of the Department of Librarianship, Archives and Records.

ALIA Information Literacy Task Force Forum

It is designed to assist in the delivery, throughout Australia, of ALIA's lobbying strategies. It will also provide participants with skills which will help promote their own libraries and personal interests. The programme covers: current issues for AustraliaŐs libraries; the process of advocacy; the importance of planning and the value of partnerships; dealing with the media (with a video starring Barry Otto); dealing with politicians; harnessing community support; the importance of friends groups and related organisations.

The workshops are designed for generalist librarians with no Asian language knowledge who require a knowledge of basic information sources for Asian studies.

They will provide participants with a knowledge of the basic information sources for China, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. Participants will gain a good understanding of the major English language and bilingual sources of inform-ation for East Asia and Southeast Asia.
