Warren Horton has been Director- General of the National Library of Australia since July 1985. He was State Librarian of Victoria from 1981 to 1985, and prior to that worked in the State Library of New South Wales for 1957 to 1981. He chairs the Commonwealth Public Lending Right Committee, is a member of the Australian National Commission for UNESCO, and is Treasurer and a member of the Executive Board of the International Federation of Library and Information Associations and Institutions (IFLA).

Charles Landry founded Comedia, now Britain's leading cultural planning consultancy, in 1978. Since that time Comedia has undertaken several projects concerned with revitalising public and social life through cultural activity, quality of life studies and city strategies. He co-directed the Future of the Public Libraries Services project, most recently published as Public Libraries in a world of Cultural Change in 1995. He has lectured widely in the UK, Europe and Australia. He specialises in strategic policy development, the economics of innovation and cultural industries, and city futures.

Elizabeth Proust has a BA (Hons) from LaTrobe and LLB University of Melbourne. She is Secretary, Department of Premier and Cabinet in Victoria, having taken up this appointment after five years as chief executive officer of the city of Melbourne and a wide range of earlier positions in both the public and private sectors. Her present role, together with her position as National President of the Royal Institute of Public Administration of Australia gives Elizabeth a rare high profile involvement within the three spheres of public administration in this country. |

Neil McLean is Deputy University Librarian at Macquarie University. Prior to returning to Australia in 1990, he was Head of Library Services at the Polytechnic of Central London for ten years and was latterly Head of Computing Services. He is currently a member of the NSW Information Technology Advisory council, Chair of Standards Australia, IT19 Committee - Computer Applications, Information and Documentation, and Chair of the Australian Bibliographic Network Committee. He has published widely in the library and information field, with particular emphasis on the application of information technology. |

Professor Stuart Macintyre is Ernest Scott Professor of History at the University of Melbourne. He chairs the Civics Expert Group and is a member of the Councils of both the National Library of Australia and the State Library of Victoria. He has published extensively in history and social history and been active in a wide range of community and academic bodies. Professor Macintyre is committed to the vital role of libraries in the preservation and transmission of our cultural heritage. |
Marcia Langton is the Ranger Chair of Aboriginal Studies at Northern Territory University. She has ten years experience as an anthropologist and twenty five in Aboriginal affairs and was awarded and AM for services to both in 1993. She is in her second term as Chair of the Council of the Australian Institute of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Studies and is a member of the Aboriginal Reconciliation Council. She has published widely on contemporary social issues in Aborigianl affairs and worked for a number of land councils and Royal Commissions. |

Min-min Chang is Founding Director of Library of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Ms Chang received her MLS from the University of California at Berkeley in 1965. Since then she has held various positions in a number of university libraries including Northwestern, SUNY-Buffalo and McGill. Prior to her appointment to her present position in 1990, she was Associate Director of Libraries at the California Institute of Technology. In recent years Ms Chang
has devoted most of her efforts to the application and development of information technology in academic libraries. |
Tim Jacobs has been Director, Arts Victoria, since February 1995. Prior to this appointment he has filled a variety of positions with Arts Victoria, the Visual Arts/Craft Board, and the Australia Council. He was previously a professional potter. Tim Jacobs is the chair of the Libraries Working Group of the Cultural Ministers Council. |
Robert Wedgeworth has been President of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) since 1991, and a member of its Executive Board since 1985. He is currently University Librarian at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the third largest of all US university research libraries after Harvard and Yale. He was previously (1985-1992) Dean of the School of Library Service at Columbia University, and Executive Director of American Library Association (1972-1985). He has been widely honoured in a career in libraries spanning over thirty years. |

Eleanor Jo (Joey) Rodger President of the Urban Libraries Council (USA). Previous positions included Executive Director, Public Library Association, Regents Lecturer, UC Berkely, Chief of Network Services Enoch Pratt Free Library Baltimore, and extensive strategic planning and management consulting assignments.
