I am a retired geologist living with my wife Lynne on a
20 acre property in a semi-rural locality just outside the regional town
of Bendigo, located about 150 km north of Melbourne in the state of
Victoria, Australia. Bendigo lies in the heart of the Central Victorian
goldfields that were discovered in 1851 and proved an irresistible
attraction to all manner of people in Britain, Europe, America and the Far
East in the mid- to late-19th century. Bendigo is a beautiful city of
nearly 100,000 people, full of tangible links to the boisterous,
rollicking days when gold was the only subject of conversation and
endeavour. Although the last of the old mines closed more than 50 years
ago, a new mining era is rekindling old memories with the recent opening
of a modern underground mine.
I have two wonderful children
and four lovely grandchildren - so far! In addition, Lynne has another four
children and six grandchildren, so we are a fairly large family when
everyone gets together in the one place.
I have been interested in
genealogy since about 1990. Although family history takes up the bulk of
my time, I enjoy gardening with Australian native plants, camping in the
Outback, reading, fishing, writing and travelling. I also take a keen interest
in the history of the discovery of Australia, the gold-rush era in
Victoria, the climate change debate, nuclear energy, and most things
scientific. Some of my favourite websites and areas of interest outside
genealogy can be found on the Other links
