ABOUT US
Welcome to the Warrnambool Family History Group Inc. web site. We have tried to include all the information you may need about the facilities and activities of our Group.

The Warrnambool Family History Group
was previously the trading name of the Warrnambool Area of The Australian Institute of Genealogical Studies Inc. and was formed in August 1980. The Group achieved Incorporation in its own right on 26 October 2011.

The basic purpose of the Group is to foster the study of Family History in Warrnambool and District by conducting a varied range of activities in which members and the public may participate.

The Group publishes a monthly newsletter "The South-West Genealogist" ten times a year (February to November inclusive) which includes general genealogical news, items of local interest and news on the activities of the Group. For subscription details see the Publications page. A major feature of past newsletters is the inclusion of summarised Historical information from the Warrnambool Standard covering the corresponding month 100 and 126 years ago. Due to the increasing size of the excerpts, from 2010, the Historical information has been limited to just 126 years ago. Therefore a single year, commencing with 1884, will feature throughout the year. Past issues of the Newsletter can be found by clicking the SW GENEALOGIST PAST ISSUES link in the left column. These copies are PDF files and are therefore fully searchable using the PDF reader's "Edit/Find" facility.

The Group maintains and staffs a Reference Library in the Mechanic's Institute building at Flagstaff Hill Maritime Museum which provides a range of resources for Australian and overseas research and collects and indexes local Family History material for the use of members and the public.

ENTRY TO FLAGSTAFF HILL FOR RESEARCHERS
Those wishing to visit the Mechanic's Institute only at Flagstaff Hill (for Research and other associated activities) do not have to pay normal, full entry fees to the facility. Make your intentions known at Reception. If you possess suitable identification linking you with the AIGS or other Genealogical Group then please present it at this time. You will then be issued with some form of visible identification (still to be finalised) so that Staff can monitor your movements within Flagstaff Hill. Under these circumstances, you need only pay a Researcher entry fee of $2.00.
More details later as procedures are finalised (we are all still learning to "live" together at 'The Hill').

Financial members of The Australian Institute of Genealogical Studies Inc. pay a local annual library access fee of $15.00 (inc GST) whilst non-members pay an annual library access fee of $30.00 (inc GST) to gain access to the library resources. This library fee includes a free subscription to the newsletter. It should be noted that post Incorporation, this fee structure may change.
