John Monash: Engineering enterprise prior to WW1.

March 1898 version of Monier arch bridge at Fyansford.

Drawing shows the three-span version with the central arch larger than the others. The spandrels are plain. Both piers are clear of the river. Both abutment blocks are supported on piles.

M&A's drawing dated 25 March 1898. "Sketch of Proposed Monier Bridge at Fyansford". River span 100 feet (30.5m), end spans 58 ft 6 inches (17.8m). In construction, the piles were omitted and the abutments increased in size. The bases for the piers were stepped to follow the out-of-balance thrust line from the arches.
