DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that at the end of 1994 the labor government published a report entitled, Australia's Population "Carrying Capacity", One Nation, Two Ecologies". This report was the end result of an enquiry that elicited five volumes of submissions from the Australian public, of which over 90% wanted to stabilise Australia's population or to reduce it. The report was supposed to be tabled in Federal parliament, but today, May 1997, the report has still not been tabled and the interparty House of Representatives Standing committee for Long Term Strategies has been abolished. In general the Victorian Press, especially the Print media, let all this pass in silence, although they were and still are always willing to report and publicise racialist and sensational phenomena. Among the many submissions that almost nobody ever heard about were two from Australian Aboriginal agencies, ATSIC and the New South Wales Black Deaths in Custody Committee.
