The fairy and mankind

Once upon a time their lived a wise fairy atop a mountain
Smiling at all who feasted on her cast offs from above
Meat and gravy with two veg she dropped on grateful bodies
Arms raised to gather in the plentiful harvest
Grown fat on too much easy life
Lost the will to hunt, the skills needed to survive alone

The wise fairy fell ill and was transported to fairyland by Nulan
A twenty foot hairy mammoth with a heart of gold
In her place he left a plinth with the following
Go out my sons and daughters and create your own world.

Of course, man being the ungrateful oaf he is did not like these words
Cursing the fairy for leaving them
Waiting and starving below as no food came down
They did not want to heed the message on the stones
Only swear and cuss at the lovely fairy who had fell sick.

They died and the fairy visited them in limboland between deaths.
Why did you not heed my words, my children
Why should we, we had a good thing with you feeding us
Dismayed fairy and all her sister fairies vowed never to help man again
To keep hidden except in the most exceptional circumstances
So from that day man lost contact with the fairies and the magical side of life.
