Christmas Downunder

Christmas in Australia
Strange time
The sun is shining down
Heat cooking lobsters on St Kilda beach
And yet it is Christmas
Shops are full of decorations
Christmas trees wilt in the heat
Surfing Santa’s adorn Christmas cards
Carol singers sweat their way through a multitude of favourites
Turkey roast eaten on a sweltering day
All the trimmings
Don't forget the stuffing
Thick gooey plum pudding for afters
Covered with lashings of hot white sauce
Strange time
I am used to the cold and dam of Christmas in England
Never snow, not on Christmas Day
A feast to warm one up
Sitting down to watch Queenies speech
Festive hats on head
Beer can in hand
Belly drooping over the edge of your pants
Plates cleaned by a thickly buttered piece of bread
Gravy dripping into your mouth
Fit to explode, silly crackers with bad jokes
Strange time
In Australia things are different
Shorts and bare chest
Cold stubbie in one hand, sunblock in the other
Christmas downunder
