Blazing Sun Leads to Awakening

Sun blazing down on the bald head below
Skin glistening red and swollen
Prickles of sweat gushing down my face
I peered through the haze at the golden orb
Bowed down in supplication and asked for relief

None came, so I picked up my hat
White and large
Covering head and neck and more besides
My legs prickled tender to the touch
Reddenning more as each second passed
Soon the backs of my knees saluted me in agony

I could hardly bend my legs
Arching pain shooting up my nerves
Centred on the raw skin behind my knees
I looked around for shade
A tree smiled, beckoning me hither
But as I approached the cool shade disappeared

In agony I fell, smiling at the fates
I stopped thinking and finally surrendered
Nothingness enveloped me
Emptiness, a pure positive emptiness
Transcending all opposites
Beautiful, wondrous to behold
At last I saw
Though I no longer existed.
