TAKE CARE WITH MEDICATIONS - DOCTOR WARNS

Dr Michael Ryan, Staff Specialist of the New Children’s Hospital in Sydney has warned parents to take care with medications for young children with ADHD.

Dr Ryan’s remarks, printed in The Medical Journal of Australia August 1996, follow the case of a three-year-old child who was admitted to hospital after having taken an overdose of Clonidine.

"It is essential that parents are made aware of the potentially fatal consequences of psychotropic medications when taken in overdose," said Dr Ryan. He urged parents to keep medications in child-proof containers and store them safely.
