BENGAL WOMENS UNION –CALCUTTA, INDIA
Joy Handley “Joy has not been well for over two months
with vasculitis, and has been unable to carry out the sponsorship work in
Calcutta. We wish joy a speedy
recovery. She has produced a small report
for the Newsletter which follows, but also asked that if you believe that
your sponsorship money is due, she would appreciate you forwarding it
directly to the office. She will send
out more as soon as she is able. Report from Joy: In February we sent a total of $11,430 to the home of six
months sponsorship of each girl as well as funding for the cutting and
Tailoring Project. This courses for
the year commenced in April. All
girls did well in 2003/04 Projects : some of the girls have gone into
the Production Centre, while others were actually accepted for Nursing, so
they now have an extra skill to use. The Orphan Girls have had their trips,
latest one I have not reported yet, but it will come, and one before was to
Dingha, by the sea and they all looked like they were having a great
time. We were also able to provide
funds for another holiday, as well as funds towards Computer training for the
girls in the Children’s Home. These
commenced recently. None of this
would be possible without the generosity of all my wonderful sponsors and
donors as well as the great support I get from my local community in Bright. Membership Dues are payable by 1st July
