Current Projects
June 2003 : AusAID and Action Aid supported

India Watershed Management Project, involving tank de-silting and reafforestation under local management committees. The program incorporates a totally integrated approach with adult and numeracy classes, and Women and children's health being part of the recently completed three year AusAID project. The project is operated by our partner organisation SEDS (Social Education and Development Society), under the leadership of Rajen and Manil Joshua. A new three-year AusAID funded project has commenced along similar lines, with watershed management the main focus. Other assistance is provided through Women's Self Help Groups (Savings Groups).

Bangladesh Technical Training Programs for Women and some Men. The training involves garment manufacture and marketing. The home is operated by volunteers, Indian women who provide expertise in support of destitute girls and young women. Participants engage in cultural activities and special events with other schools.

Bangladesh The Jamuna Rural Development Service (JRDS) IS Action Aid's latest project, generously funded by a former Board member and his wife. Many illiterate adults will become part of a functional education program that will also double as a network of savings groups. During the life of the program, 400 people will learn to read and write their own Bengali language.Most will pool their hard-earned takas (the Bangladesh monetary unit) to creating a micro credit scheme that will sustain small ventures in income generation: raising livestock, rice husking, poultry farming’ kitchen gardens, and small businesses (such as tea shops).

Bangladesh Health and Sanitation Programs with a major focus on Women's' Training groups. This project has completed a three-year AusAID funded cycle.
