MEETINGS OF PARTNERS in
AUSTRALIAN COALITION '99 VICTORIA

This Year
Partners in AUSTRALIAN COALITION '99 VICTORIA met in February and May. During these meetings, they
- participated in a workshop on how to use IYOP projects to challenge ageism;
- heard about major activities planned for the Year, including a workshop entitled Communicating IYOP: Aiming for Social Change (21 June);Making the Most of Life (29 September) and the Global Walk (1-2 October);
- heard about the proposed media strategy for IYOP;
- committed their organisations to having a presence at major Victorian events, such as Senior Citizens Week and the Royal Melbourne Show;
- listened to Betty Burke, President of Australian Sponsorship Marketing, talk about how to achieve sponsorship for IYOP activities and events.
In 1998
Four meetings were held during 1998 and Partners in AUSTRALIAN COALITION '99 VICTORIA
- were informed about the Grant Scheme Funding Guidelines, a joint initiative by VicHealth and the Department of Human Services for IYOP;
- planned and developed a 1999 IYOP Diary;
- received a kit entitled "Dealing with the Media" which had been prepared by a sub-committee of the Steering Committee, and discussed ways to achieve media coverage of IYOP projects;
- shared ideas about their plans and how projects might be planned in collaboration with other Partners;
- gave feedback on the celebrations for the International Day of Older Persons (1.10.98) and accepted recommendations from the Event Coordinator and the Steering Committee for the planning of the event in 1999;
- received free IYOP Greeting/Christmas cards and IYOP postcards from the Department of Human Services (DHS), to distribute to their constituents;
- were informed about activities at a national level.
In 1997
In 1997 the Partners held four meetings/workshops, during which they developed ideas for action by the interim Steering Committee and heard speakers talk on
- the Victorian Parliament's Inquiry into Planning for Positive Ageing;
- the work of the Commonwealth Government’s Healthy Ageing Task Force;
- the successful 1994/5 "Australia Remembers" program.
At the last meeting for the year, in November, the Partners
replaced the interim committee with a Steering Committee to operate for the period February 1998 to December 1999.
