Wednesday 1 September
'Radio Daze' Concert: A free 'Radio Daze' concert, followed by afternoon tea, will be held at Collingwood Senior Citizens' Centre in Abbotsford on 1 September. The afternoon will include singalongs, story telling and advertisements from the heyday of radio. Bookings are necessary.Please ring for location and time.

Monday 6 September
Spring Tea Dance: A Spring Tea Dance for residents of nursing homes in the Caulfield area. The Dave Mansell Band will provide the music for the afternoon. Supported by the Caulfield General Medical Centre. Please ring for location and time.

Fishing Competition: A fishing competition will be held at Lake Eildon, near Mansfield. Supported by the Delatite Shire Council. Please ring for location and time..

Wednesday 8 September
Bush Lunch: A Bush Lunch is being organised at the historic property of Gallipoli Veteran, Horatio Jones (1871-1949) in the Dandenong Ranges. Expect home-made hot rolls and strawberry cream sponge in front of a roaring log fire, plus readings of poems by C.J.Dennis and John Shaw-Neilson.
Cost: $7 ($5 concession, $3 children) includes a visit to the house built more than 80 years ago. Bookings essential. Address details provided upon booking.

Community Safety Week: RACV 'Years Ahead' Presentation - Road safety for seniors, to be held at the Sunbury Community Health Centre at 2.30pm and at the Lynda Blundell Centre at 10am.

'Step into Spring' Party: A special IYOP 'Step into Spring' Party will be organised at the Northern Metropolitan Migrant Resource Centre in Glenroy for the Centre's Social Support Groups and volunteers. Lunch will be provided. Bookings advised. Please ring for location and time.

Thursday 16 September
Dementia Care in a Society for All Ages: An Alzheimer's Association Victoria public forum, based on the IYOP theme and featuring Tully Helmer (son of Claudia Wright) and Anne Scott-Pendlebury among others as guest speakers. Respondents will include Lynette Moore, Executive Director, Alzheimer's Association Victoria and Delys Sargeant, President, Council on the Ageing Victoria. Please ring for location and time.

Saturday 18 September
Spring Equinox Planting Festival: A special IYOP Open Day at CERES Community Environmental Park in Brunswick. To celebrate Spring there will be a day of workshops, activities and entertainment based on the planting theme and featuring the Garden of Wisdom, storytelling by multicultural elders and much more! Wednesday 29 September
Making the Most of Life: This one-day FREE event has been held for the last six years to celebrate the International Day of Older People and for IYOP 1999 it will be better than ever - a fantastic oportunity to explore, try, look at, enquire and participate in a day of the widest range of sport and recreation opportunities for people over 50 years ever held in one location. There will be over 100 exhibitors, two performance stages for community groups and lots of sport and recreation to try. Location: Royal Exhibition Building, Carlton.

Friday 1 October to Sunday 3 October
Global Walk: The World Health Organisation is promoting a Global Movement for Active Ageing with guidelines for Walks to be organised locally and to take place all over the world on 1 October - International Older Persons' Day - or as close as possible to that date.
In Victoria, Australian Coalition '99 Victoria will promote the Global Walk on the weekend of 2/3 October as an IYOP event. For a booklet on how to organise your own community Global Walk, phone: 9654 4444

Biggest Party in Ages: A special IYOP Party will be held in the Benalla Rose Gardens on 1 October. Supported by the Delatite Shire Council, Benalla Rose Gardens. Please ring for time.

Saturday 2 October
The Big Swing: At the glamorous Forum Theatre, Flinders Street, Melbourne, join in the Swing Revival and get moving to the jitterbug and the Lindy Hop. The Big Swing brings together swingers young and old dancing to music provided by Big Bands just as it was in the 1930s and 40s. Tickets will be available through Ticketek.

Thursday 7 October
Broadmeadows Afternoon Tea Dance: The Tea Dance includes Ballroom Dancing displays and Multicultural Dancing displays. A delicious afternoon tea provided.

Foot Health Week: This year's theme is 'Feet First into Fitness' with a primary target of Over 50s in recognition of IYOP. Please ring for program details.

All Ages Community Walk: This Walk will be held in the Craigieburn/Roxborough Park area for older residents of the City of Hume and school groups. The Walk will be followed by morning tea.

Spring Tea Dance: This Dance will be held by the Monash Volunteer Resource Centre and will feature Denis Farrington's Big Band and cars from the Vintage Car Club assisting with transport. Please ring for location and time.

Access Expo 99: 'Sexuality - A Human Right for All Consenting Adults'. Looks at the issues of how healthcare professionals can address sexuality and the sexual needs of people receiving institutional care. Presented by Catherine Barrett and Clair Hetsell, Gardenview House, Northwest Hospital, at the Royal Exhibition Building, Carlton.

Leslie Caron performs 'Readings from Colette': Melbourne Festival welcomes the actress Leslie Caron who has starred in fims such as 'Gigi, 'An American in Paris', 'Lili' and 'The L-Shaped Room'. Ms Caron will give three performances of 'Readings from Colette' at the George Fairfax Studio, Victorian Arts Centre.
Colette was a writer who lived in Paris earlier this century and wrote 'Gigi', the film version of which is one of Leslie Caron's most famous roles.

Aged Care Expo: An Expo for the general public at the Caulfield General Medical Centre (CGMC) with information about the services provided by CGMC. Bicycle Around the Bay in a Day: Bicycle Victoria's signature challenge ride, Around the Bay in a Day for the Smith Family, is a 210km bike ride which will commence pre dawn and can continue until dusk. When it is over, riders will enjoy a feed massage and entertainment. To register your interest -

Chapel Street Festival: This Festival will celebrate everyone who loves to shop, eat and live around this celebrated street. Look for IYOP celebrations in the Program which comes out on October 1 and will be found in most shops in Chapel Street.

Celebration of Life Concert : This Concert will be held at the Melbourne Concert Hall by the Life Planning Foundation of Australia to mark IYOP and the end of the Millennium. Featuring The Australian Girls Choir, The Melbourne Welsh Male Voice Choir, John Atwell at the organ and compered by Jocelyn Terry. Tickets: $25 Stalls and Dress Circle, $20 Balcony.

'Mad Hatter's Tea Party': A special 'Mad Hatter's Tea Party' is being organised for children and adults at the historic property of Gallipoli Veteran, Horatio Jones (1871-1949) in the Dandenong Ranges. Multicultural Day: Bundoora Extended Care Centre is hosting a Multicultural Day featuring entertainment by local ethnic groups and a sampling of sweets from different countries.
