International Education Forum (IEF) is a not-for-profit student exchange organisation working to provide secondary school age students with the opportunity to experience life in another culture. Central to the exchange experience is the student's placement in a host family. Host families are important stake holders in the exchange process. The exchange impacts on immediate and extended family - including older relatives. Exchange is a two way learning experience about culture and lifestyle. The family structure is an important component of culture. Another important component is the local community, in which older people also play a major role.
All students are supervised by a volunteer community co-ordinator and many of these co-ordinators are older people who enjoy the contact with international students.

Plans for 1999
IEF intends to create a 'Host Grandparent' feature both on our website and in our quarterly newsletter which is distributed to students, families and volunteers.
