The Retirement Village Association of Australia aims to co-ordinate and maintain credible and professional programs of self evaluation, complementing other legislative regulation and convey to public and governing authorities that fully accredited villages meet acceptable standards relating to village facilities, services and management. The Retirement Village Association of Australia involves residents, associated consumer and senior organisations in this process.

It's objectives are to establish and review minimum sets of flexible and assessable standards for accommodation, facilities, management and support services which enable residents to develop a lifestyle suitable to their needs, expectations and requirements. The Retirement Village Association is committed to ongoing reviews of its accreditation scheme.

Full members of an affiliated State Retirement Village Association may apply for accreditation and there is no restriction on village size or social or recreational facilities.
