About 40,00 Australians suffer stroke a year, and of these:
NSF has initiated the National Stroke Strategy document (1997) which is the first step in a major national campaign to increase government and community recognition of the importance of stroke as a public health issue, and to reduce the impact of stroke on the Australian Community. In brief this will be achieved by: state and region stroke policy; prevention; better acute management of stroke; rehabilitation; community care; social equity; research; and education of health professionals.
