AASW is an incorporated body which exists to promote the profession of social work and to advocate on behalf of clients. Social workers may work with individuals, groups and committees to shape and change the conditions in which they live and advocate for disadvantaged members of society. At present the Association has 5600 members, many of whom work with other persons in hospitals, or on aged care assessment teams, in community health centres, non government agencies and local government services.
