AC '99 UPDATE - EDITION No. 5 (November/December 1998)
Here are some examples of interesting projects being undertaken by state partners of AC’99 around Australia. Celebrating our Past and our Future
"Celebrating our Past and our Future" is a program for older people from diverse backgrounds, organised by the Migrant Resource Centre in Hobart. The Hobart City Council has funded the project, and the Council has specifically focussed its current round of "Grants and Assistance" on older people and thus encouraged projects and activities with an IYOP theme. The "Celebrating our Past and our Future" program will celebrate the diversity of culture, heritage and achievements within the Hobart community. It will include 5 different workshops over 5 days to demonstrate art and other skills to the wider community, especially schools.
Demystifying Technology GreyNet is run by Elwood- St Kilda Neighbourhood Learning Centre in Victoria and aims to demystify the Internet including email, chat, conference/discussion forums, etc. GreyNet provides access to and training in the use of the technology as well as the opportunity to participate in the development of a virtual community. In 1999 GreyNet aims to improve individuals’ experiences and at the same time "dismantle barriers that segregate older people".
