AC '99 Update - Edition No. 4 (October 1998)
IYOP IN THE MEDIA
The ABC of IYOP
The ABC has advised that there are exciting plans under consideration for the year, including:
ABC Television:
- Travels with My Aunt, a comedy piece starring
Margaret Scott and Mikey Robbins;
- A documentary about sexuality and
older people, to be developed in WA;
- A tele-movie drama, called "Crossing the Bar",
celebrating the lives of four different people in their sixties, as they deal with the challenge of
growing old;
- A Quantum program focusing on older people;
- Re-badging a week of promos highlighting IYOP,
to coincide with the International Day of Older Persons on October 1, 1999.
ABC Radio National:
- "Hindsight", the social history program, is planning a series looking at the 20th Century though the eyes of older Australians;
- "Australia Talks Back" will devote specific programs to topics which affect older people;
- "Life Matters" will be examining a range of issues, such as gerontology, retirement, education for older people, the older consumer, etc;
- The Radio Drama Unit is developing an occasional series of 30 minutes pieces for "Airplay" which will showcase the talents and experience of some of our older performers;
- ABC Classic FM envisages a series of programs on music written in old age, as well as on performers who are advanced in years. IYOP will also be reflected in Margaret Throsby's selection of guests;
- The proposed development of a lifestyle series, "Race Over the Hill" modelled on the successful "Race Around the World".
Other proposals for IYOP programming may emerge later in the year.
