(The Australian Bisexual Men's Association Incorporated)
Gamma Project's Mission Statement
We believe that sexuality is an intrinsic part of who we are. It is not
defined solely by either our gender or our sexual behaviour. It affects
our perceptions, attitudes and behaviours in all spheres of our lives and
it influences our relationships with others. Sexuality affects all aspects
of our lives, the way we think, the way we feel, and the way we behave.
The Australian Bisexual Men's Association is committed to assisting men
who have sex with men and women to be at ease with their sexuality and to
develop a lifestyle management strategy which permits them to live a safe,
healthy sexual lifestyle that respects the rights of all of their sexual
partners, both male and female.
We do not believe that our individual sexuality is a choice, a preference,
an aberation or a sin. We believe that different sexualities are valid and
are a part of the great range of human differences which are implicit in
all other spheres of humanity. We do not believe that homosexuality or bisexuality
can be "cured" since it is not a disorder to begin with.
We are committed to assisting those individuals who cannot come to terms
with their inherent bisexuality with strategies which may help them to develop
a lifestyle free of opression and depression. However we do not attempt to
assist people to attempt to change their sexual orientation since we do
not believe that such changes are sustainable or in the lifestyle interests
of the individual.
We are committed to sexual health and safety, both for our clients and
for all of their sexual partners. We are committed to assisting our clients
to achieve this through safe sexual behaviours and appropriate sexual health
monitoring programs. In the interests of increasing understanding and reducing
discrimination and bigotry we are also committed to the principle sexuality
education programs for the general community which provide comprehensive
information about the issues of STD transmission and sexual orientation.
We attempt to represent the views of our constituent group in a range
of areas such as discrimination, the provision of appropriate health care
services and family law issues. We believe that bisexual men are, and always
have been, marginalised in Australian society. We believe that this marginalisation
can, and should be addressed, through education programs, research projects
and services for bisexual men and their female partners.
