May 2008 ABAGRA
Have you ever have felt powerless to make a difference? Ever thought that your opinion does not count or that you are unable impact the world and what happens to your life and lifestyle right now and into the future? Do you really want to have a say in how your tax dollars are spent?
Have you ever wondered why it often appears other areas always seem to be receiving more funding to develop their area at the expense and neglect of our own? It’s very simple. These areas apply pressure on the appropriate bodies (like our own Council, State and Federal governments) and communicate their needs as a group. The old adage “strength in numbers” holds true today as did all those years ago. This is important to us as the representative voice in the area since the more members we have, the more seriously our needs and demands are considered by our own Hobsons Bay Council, State and Federal governments and the many other associations and organisations we communicate with.
What is expected of you as a member of ABAGRA? “NOTHING AT ALL!” Unless you have a particular interest and wish to offer your assistance in some way. ABAGRA management consists of duly elected local individuals prepared to do what is necessary, on a voluntary and unpaid basis, to keep the association going and to impact on its’ objectives, as dictated by the members and for the betterment of our local area.
Is ABAGRA a political association? No. ABAGRA is not politically aligned to any party whatsoever and has short, medium and long term objectives stretching as far as 30 years into the future. We really don’t see a difference who is in power at the time.
Things to consider for you, your family and your grand children: New and innovative playground/sports equipment and facilities for our kids and adults alike to enjoy throughout all the seasons, better and safer roads, schools with enough supplies, a cleaner more vibrant environment, a convenient and reliable bus service, more trees in the public area, landscaping and an infinite number of other issues are considered. By developing our area we indeed add value to our community. As a spin off this raises our house values and the general profile of the area. Even as a newly established Residents Association, our impact on your behalf has been effective. You can read about it on this website and in newsletters we distribute throughout the year.
We trust you will attend or decide to become involved by completing the form on the back and returning it to P.O. Box 498 Altona 3018 or you can always bring it along with you to one of our meetings. For an investment of only $5 per household per year for ABAGRA to work
March 2008
ABAgra TURNS 1 YEAR OLD!
To think that a full year has passed! It was 12 months ago, that a group of concerned residents got together in the hope of uniting the local community and improving our neighbourhood. Since then, a Committee has been formed, ABAGRA was incorporated, we have produced and distributed 4 newsletters, we made a written submission to last years Council budget and were successful in having $10,000 allocated to additional planting / landscaping works in our local parks. We have written numerous letters to the Council on behalf of resident concerns. Now we are about to host what we hope will become an annual tradition; being part of the Clean Up Australia Day event (and free sausage sizzle) at a local park, this year at Tatman Reserve We have close to 40 members, making ABAGRA the largest residents association in Hobsons Bay!!
Clean up Australia day
We encourage you and your family to come out to Tatman Reserve on Sunday 2nd March, 10AM to 12 Noon and help us clean up the park and the nearby nature reserve. All of the rubbish bags and gloves will be provided and ABAGRA will be hosting a free sausage sizzle for volunteers afterwards!
ABAgra Annual General Meeting
Our first Annual General Meeting (AGM) is to be held on 6 March, 7:30pm at the Altona Green Primary School. We encourage you to come out and if anyone wishes to get more involved, by either joining the Committee, being one of our newsletter distributers, or just want to come out and watch or have a tea or coffee, we do hope to see you there on the night.

June 2007
The Altona Bay & Altona Green Residents’ Association (ABAGRA)ABAGRA is now up and running! Having had our first public meeting, the local community has welcomed the creation of the ABAGRA with open arms, with over 30 people attending the first meeting. We were over whelmed by the response and enthusiasm to joining and get involved. In fact we now have over 40 paid members. A copy of the minutes of the meeting are available here. The Executive roles were quickly filled and many others wanted to help out with the distribution of the newsletter. On that note, our inaugural newsletter is expected to be hand delivered in May, so keep a look out in your letter box. And if you haven't already, please don't forget to fill out the membership application and post it back to us. We look forward to keeping you informed of ABAGRA's actions and hope to see you at our next meeting.

Formation of the Altona Bay & Altona Green Residents’ Association (ABAGRA)
Altona Meadows is one of the only suburbs in Hobsons Bay that does not have a residents association to voice the concerns of the local community to the Council. As a result, a group of residents are hoping to change this, so we can begin to raise issues with the ward Councillor to ensure improvements are made within our neighbourhood.
We are distributing invitations to 2500 households within the Altona Bay and Altona Green community. It is hoped that people will feel strongly enough to become part of this new association and begin to influence the future of our neighbourhood.
All residents are invited to an information evening to learn what the association can do and how you can get involved. The information meeting will be held on:-
