Reconciliation: the Work Continues.
The independent foundation, Reconciliation Australia
has now taken up the role of forwarding the Reconciliation process from the
Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation,
which farewelled its supporters in the final issue of
"Walking Together" (No. 30, January 2001).

Reconciliation Australia
has already put out three booklets.  These are:

"Recognising Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Rights: Ways to implement one of the four National Strategies in the Roadmap to Reconciliation"
"Local Symbols of Reconciliation: What We Can Do!"
"Sustaining the Reconciliation Process: Ways to implement one of the four National Strategies in the Roadmap to Reconciliation"

These booklets are obtainable from Reconciliation Australia, PO Box 4773, Kingston ACT 2604.

Reconciliation Australia would gratefully receive donations for its work.
These will be administered through a trust fund ,
with Marjorie Thorpe, Fred Chaney and Sir Gustav Nossal as Trustees.

Joining ANTaR is something we can do to make a difference. We can volunteer our services and/or give donations. At least get on the mailing list of ANTaR in your State. ANTaR Qld has a Political Strategy Task Group and a Public Awareness Task Group - some members are on both! Some people are on neither, but volunteer in the office or at events. In the long term, lasting social justice can be achieved only through widespread attitudinal change, so we plan a sustained public awareness campaign. We are in for the long haul.

We run monthly SEA OF IDEAS meetings usually in the form of a panel of guests and public forum to bring us up to date on vital issues. Our monthly ONE FIRE Listening Circles with Indigenous speakers in their own local communities are extremely popular. Our monthly weekend WORKSHOPS by Indigenous and non-Indigenous presenters have been booked out.

We have set in place a public speaking program to recruit and workshop public speakers to go to community groups with ANTaR's message. We run fund-raising celebrity dinners, auctions, and film nights. Politically, we run letter-writing campaigns, visit politicians, keep the media informed, in collaboration always with the Qld Indigenous Working Group. Our public awareness work is always carried out in collaboration with members of the local Murri community, many of whom are involved in running our functions.

Support ACES:
Aboriginal Community Elders Services
5 Parkview Ave.

ph: (03) 9383 4244

The aim of ACES is to provide services which are culturally based and culturally appropriate
to support the health and well-being of Aboriginal frail aged and elders in a Caring Place.
It is a deductible gift recipient, and needs to become partially self-funding, especially if it is to expand;
any donations would go towards programs like
linking elders to young Koori people, Land-Care groups, artists etc.
It's a great project with enormous potential for good and for goodwill;
one which AAR supports wholeheartedly.
Contact them directly if you would like more information.

You can do a lot just by knowing more; education IS a key.
