Điã nhạc này ghi lại những chặng đường tạo thanh cuả Đặng Kim Hiền với 8 tác phẩm soạn trong ba thập niên, từ năm 1982 đến năm 2012. Những sáng tác của Đặng Kim Hiền đã không ngừng đưa tiếng đàn và giọng hát Việt đến những chân trời âm thanh mới. Các tác phẩm soạn cho đàn tranh, đàn bầu, đàn nguyệt, trống, phách hay giọng hát của chị có một đặc tính nổi bật là khai thác và làm thăng hoa những yếu tố âm thanh của nhạc truyền thống Việt, từ điệu thức, tiết tấu cho đến màu âm. Chị cũng đã liên tục làm mới ngôn ngữ âm nhạc của mình bằng nhiều phương thức như phát triển các kỹ thuật diễn tấu mới, kết hợp nhạc khí Việt với nhạc khí của các truyền thống âm nhạc khác, hay vận dụng những kỹ thuật thiết kế âm thanh hiện đại.

2. Silent Tears (1995, revised 2012) (Nước Mắt Trong Tim)

Dang Kim Hien: amplified throat voice (performed with a Shadow SH2000A transducer attached to the throat), phach tre [bamboo block], and dua tre [bamboo chopsticks]

Le Tuan Hung: suling [Balinese flute]

3. Webs of Life (1996, revised 2012) (Kiếp Người)

Music for an audio-visual realisation of the perception of life as presented in the painting Kiep Nguoi [Human's Life] (1991) by Nguyen Van Doi. Original music by Dang Kim Hien, with baby cries by Quoc Anh Tran (1996), Buddhist chants by the monks of Quang Huong Gia Lam Temple (Vietnam), and Anne Norman playing melodic fragments from Le Tuan Hung's Scent of Time on the shakuhachi [Japanese flute]

Dang Kim Hien: dan tranh [zither], dan bau [monochord], dan nguyet [lute], trong com [rice drum], mo [woodblocks], phach tre [bamboo block], wooden clappers, rain stick, electronic crickets.

Le Tuan Hung: Ocarina, temple bell, wind chimes, rain stick, Helix wind roarer and field recordings.

4. Shadows of the War Horse (2000) (Chiến Mã)

Dang Kim Hien: 25-stringed dan tranh (Vietnamese zither), wooden sticks and bells

This piece was created for a specially constructed 25-stringed dan tranh made for the composer in 1991 (The standard versions of traditional and contemporary dan tranh have 16, 17 or 22 strings)

5. Inside / Outside (2002) (Nội Tâm và Ngoại Giới)

6. On a Quivering String (2005)

All the sounds and effects were created on the experimental electric dan bau [Vietnamese monochord], designed and built by Mr. Phan Chi Thanh, an experimental instrumental designer in Vietnam.

7. Melodia Nostalgica (2006) (Giọt Sầu)

for dan bau [Vietnamese monochord], piano and a flock of birds

The experimental monochord dan bau, created by Mr. Phan Chi Thanh, was used in this composition to generate low tones which cannot be produced on the traditional monochord.
