Barnes Products produce a range of materials for casting, including rubbers and resins. Their new store in Melbourne is now open, 40-42 Swan Street, Richnond. Mon-Fri 9am-5pm and Saturday 10am-1pm.
High Level produce a range of precision gear boxes and motors as well as their small, UK outline locomotive kits. Loco kits are to 4mm scale but the motors and gears are suitable, of course, for a range of scales
Proxxon tools are available from Woodworking Machinery Specialists.
Model Torque, a local (Blackburn, Vic., Aus) firm, have put on the market a magnetic transmission system for driving locomotives: worth a look.
Brunel Models are producers and suppliers of custom decals. Prices are reasonable, quality is excellent and it seems that almost anything is possible provided that you know exactly what you want!
Hobby Box Tools are an internet order firm that supply a range of tools, glues etc for the hobbyist. Melbourne based and worth a look.
Veteran Models supply a limited but growing number of kits for VR in quarter inch scale.

Lloyd's Model Railways have an on line catalogue and a prompt mail order service
AR Kits (formerly The AR Kit Company) is under new ownership and is able to supply items promptly by mail order.
The SAR Model Company have a few items of interest to the VR modeller including decals and Modelling Goo.

Model Railroader Magazine
Formlink have a site that points to a lot of Model Rail sites in and out of Australia.
The AMRM (Australian Model Railway Magazine) has a website which contains lots of useful info including an extensive listing of model rail clubs in Australia.
NMRA standards can be found at this site.
The Victorian N Scale Collective web site, as well as containing lots of information about modelling specifically in N Scale, is full of useful tips, applicable to other scales.
Minnipa and Dutton Bay are two sites featuring the modelling of railways in the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. Both are interesting, well put together sites with a wealth of information about the layouts and their prototypes as well as modelling tips and techiniques.


Sites of Prototype Interest

Michael Venn's gallery contains an outstanding collection of photographs of Australian and New Zealand steam in the 1960s.
The National Library of Australia has in its holdings the John Buckland Collection of photographs, some of which have been digitised and are available on-line.
Rob O'Regan has a lifetime goal to digitise and place on line his collection of monochrome pictures of rolling stock and locos. Mid 1970s to present day. Also contemporary image in colour.
Peter Vincent, the guy who produced the excellent CD on VR rolling stock, has put most of his comprehensive collection of data on line.
The Victorian Museum website has a section showing aspects of the history and operation of the Victorian Railways.

The Public Records Office allows for online searches. You need to register and material can be viewed at the offices in North Melbourne or Ballarat.
Mark Bau, who lived and worked on trains in the US for a few years, has returned home and continues to maintain an excellent site dedicated to Victorian Railways. It in turn has some interesting links.

The Emerald Tourist Railway (Puffing Billy) site has useful and interesting information about this famous preserved railway.
For those interested in modern US operation have a look at Tales From the Krug. Nice pics, good comment but a bit slow to load.
The Goulburn Crookwell Heritage Railway have a new website. They are a re-juvenated group and are looking for support.
National Railway Museum: Adelaide provides the necessary infomation about this outstanding institution.
