Workmens' Sleepers

W class workmans' sleeper vans have long been a feature of the VR and they came in many guises. Those shown on this page represent the purpose built units, constructed during the first decade of the 19th century. Later, a variety of obsolete passenger rolling stock was modified and re-classified to become workmens' sleepers. All models shown below are to HO scale.
This bug-hut was shown by Chris Tasker. It is built on an acrylic box with styrene overlays. The underframe is a modified from a SEM long wheel base T/U kit.
Two more bug huts shown by Geoff Tasker utilise the same construction method and show variations in design.
John McCallum built these two from styrene. The sides and ends were laid out on a CAD program and printed directly to 0.015 sheeet styrene. This was scribed and cut out by hand and then laminated onto thicker styrene sheet.
