ROYAL SCOTTISH COUNTRY DANCE SOCIETY
Melbourne and District Branch Inc. (Australia)

Scottish country dancing has been popular in Scotland for centuries, and is danced in Victoria in many country centres, and in several Melbourne suburbs. It is a jolly, lively, social type of dancing, suitable for men and women of all ages.

The dancing is done in groups of 6 or 8, and is very different from Highland Dancing, which is an individual dance.

It is not necessary to be adept to enjoy this type of dancing, but the better you can dance, the more you will enjoy it. You should have the ability to move the feet rhythmically, and be able to follow formations.

There are classes in Melbourne every night of the week, at various locations. The cost is usually about $3 per night. It would be an advantage to have a pair of light-weight dance shoes - and that is all that you will need to begin. It is not necessary to come with a partner.

The benefits are enjoyable physical exercise, mental stimulation, and the companionship of a friendly group of people
