I was inspired to tackle this project by the book "Woodturning
Wizardry" by David Springer.
The timber is walnut.
The ball is 64 mm diameter with a 3mm wall thickness. There are
6 primary holes, 25 mm dia with 8 secondary holes at 20 mm dia.
The cube inside the ball is 36 mm dia across the flats. Each
face of this cube is cut away starting at 31 mm x 3mm deep and then
another 4 rings 3mm deep at 25.19,and 13 mm diameter .
Each ring that is cut breaks into each other ring on all the
other faces of the cube so that so that you have a lattice work
effect.
The stand is straight spindle turning with the top edge cut
with a cutter held in a router fixed in a cross slide vice.
