About Us

A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE GUILD.

The Peninsula Woodturners Guild was formed in 1983 to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and techniques in relation to woodturning. The Guild started with about 12 individuals meeting in one of the woodturner's homes and now has around 190 men and women members. New members are welcome. These days the P.W.G. meets in its own studio in the grounds of the McClelland Gallery Campus at Langwarrin, on the outskirts of Frankston, Victoria.

Regular meetings are held at the Woodturner's Studio on the second Saturday of each month.  Every Wednesday afternoon there is a presentation by a Guest Speaker or a demonstration by a Guild Member, and a Show and Tell of current  work is generally covered during the session.  Experienced and informed members present on-going sessions teaching all facets of the craft for the benefit of beginners and for those members who wish to fine-tune their skills

All members are encouraged to participate in these meetings and the range of topics is very wide. The use of Guild equipment is also encouraged. At present about 40 - 60 members attend each session for a happy combination of enlightenment and entertainment. There are also tutorial and special interest groups such as Ornamental Turning Group and the Computer and Internet Group that meet regularly.
Workshop Group meetings may be general or have a particular interest or produce models for a special purpose such as charities.
The Guild holds an Exhibition and Competition every two years for the Guild Members either at our studio or at a convenient venue. We also have an annual Exhibition at the   National Trust Coolart Homestead, Somers for the whole of January. This exhibition has been running for about 10 years and is getting better each year.
