NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER 2003

MARKET DAY

Thank you to all our helpers for the efforts – the takings have totaled $1,090 and with expenses taken out we anticipate the profit to be in the vicinity of $900. The weather was fine and hot, good market weather but we could not have achieved this amount- one of our best results ever – without the help of lots of people. Some of the usual stalwarts weren’t well but replacements stepped up. The shade awnings and electrical harness that John Neall has made, improved the barbeque area. Onions were sliced - coleslaw made - cold drinks and meat picked up in ice-cold eskies - cakes, biscuits, preserves, lemon butter made - Christmas hamper assembled – raffle tickets sold – donations of bread and hamper goodies donated from local businesses – orchids and oak seedlings potted up – white elephant articles and books chased out of cupboards – such a lot of help from the community. We are all envious of Sue Simpfendorfer of Sandon who won the Christmas Hamper. The second prize, a lovely Christmas table centre, made and donated by May Thornbury was won by a person who only gave a phone number and is still being traced at this time.

NOVEMBER EXCURSION

Arrangements for this our November excursion and end of year get-together are as advertised in the last newsletter, If you require transport, cars will be leaving from the courthouse at 12.40 or you can meet us at Vaughan Springs at 1pm. Bring some lunch to share as well as a cup and a glass Max Kay has arranged for David Avery of Parks Victoria to join us as well a couple of the local residents to share their memories of Vaughan. It should be a good day to relax and a reward for a good year’s effort!

ARRANGEMENTS AT THE COURTHOUSE OVER SUMMER

The next meeting will be at the courthouse on February 17th 2003. This will be the last newsletter until next year but the courthouse will be open as usual on Monday mornings for anyone who can come. At the meeting yesterday a list of jobs that need doing was drawn up. They include Cataloguing the coloured photos, usually taken of society functions. Indexing the family history files. Collecting the data from the Honour boards in the district, indexing and entering onto computer. Indexing local history books in the library. Keeping the register up to date. Indexing the microfilms of the rates records. Compiling oral histories.

Thanks to everyone! Dawn Angliss 54762006
