LOCAL ATTRACTIONS:
Plan to come early, or stay over for a few days, and enjoy the many "gems"
of the South West to be found in Camperdown and surrounding locations
within the Corangamite Shire.
Camperdown is steeped in historic buildings and natural wonders - here is a sample.
 |
The 113 year old Gothic style Clocktower which towers 30 meters above the main street. |
The Historical Museum situated in the main street. This building was the former IOOF hall built the same year as the clocktower.
A scenic drive/walking trail to Mt. Leura and Sugarloaf Mountain. The lookout at the summit of Mt.Leura gives a view of the third largest volcanic plain in the world
 |
The Botanic Gardens and Lookout which are accessed through the Caravan Park.
These gardens were designed by William Guilfoyle in 1869.
The scenic lookout takes in a view of the twin crater lakes, Lake Bullen Merri which is fresh water and Lake Gnotuk which is salt water (stunning).
|
The Stone Walls. This district has the most important and extensive network of dry stonewalls in Australia.
SHORT TRIPS:
Within one hour's drive, or less, you can take in the scenic coastal areas, including The Twelve Apostles and Loch Ard Gorge, or you may like to visit a Cheese or Chocolate Factory, a Whiskey Distillery, or a local Winery and spend time at its cellar door to learn a little more of this craft and sample the wares.
For the really energetic, visit the Otway Fly (rainforest walk), check out the whales at Warrnambool or tackle some of, or all, the newly opened Timboon-Naroghid Rail Trail by bike or foot.
Try a little fishing at our famous lakes or play a few holes of golf at Camperdown's 18 hole, grass green, links style course.
