Biography
Del is a painter of environments
and her varied works display a strong reverence for the individual
and/or the place. She is fascinated by the beauty to be found in the attitudes
of the human body, and the way these can portray both movement and psychological
states.
In both her "streetscapes"
and her "bushscapes" rhythm and harmony play an important role, as does
the light - clear or filtered. These are not tonal paintings as Del looks
around with her eyes wide open, and asks the viewer to do the same - to
wander through her paintings and appreciate the facets of life portrayed
and the harmonious relationships. Some works use the "in-field" approach
where the viewer is placed right in the picture.
Del has works in private
collections in Australia, England and the U.S.A., and exhibits in various
exhibitions. Her works have earned commendations and awards. Del travels
frequently - during a stay in England she studied life-drawing and exhibited
with the "Southsea Painters". A stint in France provided material for a
series of paintings of Montmartre, and whilst sailing the Mediterranean
Del selected subjects from the Greek Islands.
However, the enchantment
to be found in Australia's gorges is perhaps her favourite subject matter,
and in the diverse cafe areas around Melbourne, when people are grouped
together, she finds a similar beauty.
