WANTED - TOGGENBURG DOE OF ANY AGE,

Suitable as a foundation dam for establishment of a new stud

I am situated in the Riverina, NSW, and I currently run Angora and Boer goats in a fibre and meat production enterprise. Having had milkers all my life for home consumption, I am now wishing to add a small dairy enterprise to the mix. I have some crossbred milkers, but I would like to acquire a quality Toggenburg doe to serve as a foundation dam for the establishment of a new stud.

I am interested in all ages. I am prepared to take kids (and hand rear if necessary), weaner kids, doelings, older does, and I am even happy to take those that are getting on a bit (even up to 10 – 12 years old).
I would require does 18 months and older to be pregnancy tested in kid.

The attributes I am looking for in a doe include:

• Does must have a good temperament, particularly a good attitude to fences ie. no jumping. They must also stand quietly to be hand-milked.

• Does must be structurally sound, in particular they should not be cow hocked, post legged or soft in the pasterns. I also wish to avoid does which require frequent (ie. more than twice a year) hoof trimming.
  

• Does must have a sound and well formed udder. In particular, teats must be small and thin and suitable for suckling by kids. I do not want large bulbous teats. The udder should be well attached and carried high.
  

• Does must be sound in the mouth, ie. no underbites or overbites.
  

In the case of unkidded does, doelings and kids, their mother should display the traits listed above.

 Does must come from a high health status herd, free of Johnes, CAE and CL.

Does should be registered with the breed society and be of high quality – I will consider show standard does but also other does as well.

I would prefer to make contact with breeders in southern NSW or northern Victoria, but I am prepared to travel for the right doe.

Breeders can be assured that I have extensive experience in the goat industry, and thus the well being of the doe will be maintained at a high level.
