Write a letter to your representatives in Parliament about the impact on the 7.30 Report and Foreign Correspondent of inadequate funds.

7.30 Report

The 7.30 Report has lost nearly a third of its staff since it went national nearly ten years ago. This was over and above the substantial cuts that were made with the abolition of the state-based program.

The 7.30 Report doesn’t just cover News and Current Affairs. On this program senior cabinet members and Prime Ministers are asked probing questions, talented and famous people are interviewed, and issues affecting ordinary Australians are given their deserved attention. But in the long term, what effect do funding cuts have on this program’s ability to cover stories in depth? If the 7.30 Report can’t do this, it can’t do issues justice. And the Australian people are less well-informed as a result. WE DESERVE BETTER

Foreign Correspondent

In August 2003, ABC MD Russell Balding announced that after the ABC failed to secure additional funding from the Federal Budget in May, cuts to programs would be made.

As a result FC was reduced from an hour of fine international reporting to forty minutes.

This highly regarded program wins loads of international awards every year.

Australia needs to support our fine ABC international correspondents and this can’t be done if funding slows to a trickle.
