In memory of Jon Pertwee
1919 - 1996

Jon Devon Roland Pertwee is most remembered for his role as the Third Doctor. Jon embraced the role bringing his own unique personality to the character. So much of the Third Doctor WAS Jon Pertwee. My earliest memories of Doctor Who was that of this man. A being who fought for the good of others. My fondest memories of Doctor Who stems from the U.N.I.T days, most notably the Autons, The Brigadier, Sergeant Benton and Jo Grant.

Jon was called in 1969 to take over the role from Patrick Troughton. When he asked how he should play the role, the producer, Peter Bryant said "be yourself".

After several expulsions in his school days, and after being told he would never be an actor, Jon was posted to HMS Hood. Luckily he was reposted, shortly the Hood was sunk in 1941 by the Bismarck. Jon continued to act and when the Second World War was over, his career began to take its shape.

His famous role as Chief Petty Officer Pertwee in one of Radio's longest Running resuals, The Navy Lark is a must hear for all Pertwee fans.

Jon has several parts in many of the Carry On movies as well as the famous childrens series, Worzel Gummidge where he played a scarecrow.

Jon was always full of energy we are told, in his theatre performances he always acted with such energy, Tom Baker has described him as a tall lightbulb that glitters!

Jon was a great man and he is sadly missed. My only regret is that unfortunately I never got to meet him at a convention.

This page is dedicated to your memory Jon.
